SON OF THE SUN
After New Regime, I was managed by Phil Sandhouse (one of Bowie's US managers, as well as Vice-president of Tribeca, Robert De Niro's film production company) in New York City. During my stint with Sony Records, several of the tracks from this album were written in The Big Apple. Very important additions to this album.

That said, the backbone of the work was co-written with BILL BELL and charged with life from the great players who recorded SON OF THE SUN in Toronto.

A special tip of the hat goes to our producer Bob Potter (Joe Cocker, Marianne Faithful, Ringo Starr) for helping us bring this album together.

"After dismantling the Canadian pop band New Regime in the late 80's and putting some time aside for self-reflection, Toronto singer / songwriter Kevin Connelly is back with a spectacular, solo debut."
Connelly has the kind of versatile rock voice that can power its way through a gutsy rocker just as easily as it can wrap itself around a beautiful power ballad. Radio programmers take note."
LT, RPM Music Magazine, Canada
"Connelly's previous musical life was lead singer for New Regime, the mid-80's Toronto new wave band that was closer to rock than most of it brethren.

"So it should come as no surprise that SON OF THE SUN is packed full of dramatic-edged, hook-laden songs such as 'Everything Looks Different In The Light' and 'You Go Your Way (I'll Go Mine)' that should go a long way to restoring Connelly's strong tenor as being one of the best that Canada has to offer."

"After an eight year layoff, former New Regime vocalist Kevin Connelly has returned to the music scene with his 1st solo effort. A slickly produced heartland rocker, SON OF THE SUN kicks off with the impossibly catchy 'The Hand That Feeds You' and continues unabated right up until the album's finale, 'Freedomland.'"

AL-X, VIEW Magazine
"With SON OF THE SUN, Connelly has made a great mid-period Bruce Springsteen album. The kind of album he used to make before dumping the E-Street band and stopped writing songs about epic ambition.

"Connelly's solo debut, (following the break up of his former band New Regime) is fuelled by his gruff ready-made-for-classic-rock radio voice. Connelly's voice and arrangements carry the day."

“Kevin Connelly’s voice has merited the attention by critics who have heard previews of this new album - and indeed it is a rich, strong, eminently listenable voice. This album musically is very alive and dance friendly and all the songs have substance melodically and lyrically. At club Vox, Connelly demonstrated he is not just a studio wiz either.”

"Rare indie release SON OF THE SUN from former NEW REGIME lead vocalist Kevin Connelly. Simply a vocalist that can’t be ignored. Truly an amazing release, although no longer hi-tech, this release is more focused on AOR / hard rock. I highly recommend this killer release. Polished and top notch AOR with a rock edge, awesome!"
